I’m from Palo Alto, California. I am currently an Assistant Professor in the chemistry department at the University of Pittsburgh; previously, I received my undergraduate degree (B.S. in chemistry) from Yale, a graduate degree (Ph.D in physical chemistry) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and spent three years as a postdoctoral associate in polymer physics at the University of Minnesota, where I was lucky to receive a fellowship through the  L’Oreal For Women in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship program.

As a publicly-funded scientist, I believe it is important to engage in public communication to help people understand the cutting-edge research that their tax dollars support, and why that research is important. As such, I have a strong interest in science writing and outreach. I was a 2013 AAAS Mass Media Fellow at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and frequently participate in science outreach events on campus.
